Persons eligible for enrollment in the specialization program will have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of baccalaureate level courses (or equivalent) AND have at least two years of work experience in public health or health related field.

Registration for all courses is for professional development/non-credit only. Courses taken for non-credit cannot be applied to a degree program or retroactively converted to academic credit.

To earn the  Department of Epidemiology Specialization program completion award, students must actively participate in courses and complete all required course work. A grade of P (Pass) must be obtained in all courses. Completion of the entire set of courses is required to receive the Training program achievement award.

The series of courses can be completed by attending the Graduate Summer Institute of Epidemiology and Biostatistics or taking classes during the regular JHSPH academic year, combining online and onsite courses.  Accepted applicants are required to register for a minimum of two courses each registration period. The training program must be completed within two years of entry.

Participants may apply and begin the program at three points during the academic year:

An achievement award, signed by the Chair of the Department of Epidemiology,  Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School pf Public Health, and the program directors, will be presented to those who successfully complete the program. This award may be acceptable as evidence of advanced training in epidemiology methods for purposes of employment or advancement.

After logging into SIS, select your appropriate Public Health student record (NC for Non-Credit/Professional Development) from the drill down menu located near the top, next to your name. Under the Registration tab, select Search for Classes. Enter the correct Academic Period: 2019-20 Summer Institute and select Class Department –Epidemiology click on “Search”.  Specialization courses begin with 340 and end with .SP.  Select your course(s), and then click on “Register”.
