Nukhba Zia, PHD Candidate

Nukhba Zia and Abdul Bachani

At this year鈥檚 JHU Student Employee of the Year Awards, Nukhba Zia, a PhD candidate in the Department鈥檚 Health Systems Program, was named Graduate Student Employee of the Year runner-up. In addition to her studies, Nukhba is a graduate research and teaching assistant with the Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit (JH-IIRU), which is based in the Department. Nukhba provides technical and administrative support to several JH-IIRU projects, including the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety Project and 

鈥淣ukhba is a critical member of the Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit team and we鈥檙e thrilled to see her earn this deserved recognition,鈥 said  PhD '11, MHS, '08, assistant professor, Health Systems, and JH-IIRU deputy director. 鈥淓arly on as part of a trip to a field site in Uganda, she demonstrated her ability to step right in and even take the lead on a number of critical tasks and projects. Both our research team and the students she assists are grateful to have her.鈥

Nukhba is interested in injury and trauma research with special focus on disability. She hopes to follow in the footsteps of her faculty mentors, Dr. Adnan Hyder and Dr. Bachani, and continue her work in disability research with a focus on vulnerable populations after graduation.
