External Funding Resources

Prospective students may consider applying for the following external private scholarships. Please contact the sponsoring organization directly for more details about eligibility and application procedures.

General External Private Scholarships

The scholarships below are for students based on area of study, career goals, and other general criteria. 


  • The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality at the Department of Health and Human Services supports research to improve the quality, effectiveness, accessibility and cost effectiveness of health care.
  •  
    Scholarships support study in air quality, waste management, and environmental management.

  • Supports students pursuing training and research in the field of water supply and treatment.
  •  
    The scholarship is available to all students currently enrolled at least half-time at a post-secondary institution.
  •  
    The is available for graduates that express and demonstrate commitment to improvement of the U.S. health care system and long-term career interest in the fields of health policy, public health, health administration, and/or health management.

  • The National Science Foundation promotes and advances scientific progress in the U.S. by competitively awarding funding for research and education in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering.
  •  
    The Cory L. Richards Memorial Scholarship will support emerging leaders in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

  • The foundation awards scholarships to students who are enrolled in an accredited master's programs related to healthcare management systems field.

  • The foundation awards scholarships to full time students who demonstrate a combination of fine character, academic excellence, financial need, compassion, a commitment to volunteerism, and whose goal will benefit mankind.

  • Provide scholarships to students who are pursuing higher education, preparing for the workforce, or using their passion to ignite change in the communities and beyond.

  • Provides scholarships and awards to MENSA members and non-members.

  • Provides research training grants to prepare trainees for careers that will have a significant impact on health-related research needs of the Nation.

  • By providing merit-based graduate scholarships, Samvid Ventures invests in the graduate education of future leaders who are committed to effecting a positive change in society.

  • The program provides scholarships to students pursuing study in health care including public health.

 

International Students

International students are urged to pursue all possible funding resources. Below is a listing of some opportunities. Although international students are not eligible for federal financial assistance, they may apply for private loans. 


  • Advance Africa provides listings of scholarship opportunities available to international students
    for public health study.

  • ASF offers opportunities for Scandinavians wishing to study or research in the U.S. and Americans wishing to study or research in Scandinavian.

  • The Association awards Australian fellowships for advanced study in the U.S.

  • Formed in 1958 for the advancement of education among Armenians.

  • The program provides scholarships to women pursing full-time graduate or postdoctoral studies
    in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

  • The foundation supports the exchange of university students, scientists and scholars between the United States and Belgium.

  • Provides fellowships and awards to Canadian women.

  • Undergraduate and graduate scholarships are provided to support U.S. or Finnish citizens study    in the United States or in Finland.

  • Programs include the Fulbright Program, CMB Next Generation Fellowships and Gilman Scholarships. IIE provides many resources and information for international students.

  • IEFA is a resource for financial aid information for students wishing to study abroad.

  • Provides a variety of specific scholarships on a monthly basis to degree seeking international students.

  • A philanthropic organization that provides assistance in educating women through scholarships, grants, awards, and loans.

 

Specific Groups

Eligibility for the scholarships below is based on identity, including gender, race, ethnicity, disability, or residence.


  • The program provides a pathway to the USAID Foreign Service for historically underrepresented groups. It provides support for graduate school, internships, and professional development.

  • These programs provide support to women who are preparing to advance or change careers or re-enter the workforce in health and medical sciences, pursing full-time graduate or postdoctoral studies or pursuing full-time study to complete dissertations.

  • AAHD offers opportunities to full-time graduate students with a disability wishing to purse studies related to public health.

  • The program provides scholarships to racially/ethnically diverse students in graduate healthcare management programs.

  • The program provides scholarships to students in graduate healthcare management programs.

  • The program provides financial assistance to full-time African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Latino/Hispanic, or multiracial graduate students.

  • This scholarship is designated for students who are dentists that have decided to pursue a master's level degree in public health.

  • Provides scholarships to U.S. citizens who are legally blind.

  • Provides scholarships to students of Hispanic heritage.

  • The program is open to any current full-time students or entering full-time students in a health professions graduate program.

  • Provides scholarships to Italian Americans who are members of the NIAF.

  • Provide financial assistance to American Indian and Alaska Native graduate students pursing degrees full-time in any field of study.

  • Sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration this scholarship supports Native Hawaiians pursuing health professions degrees to service the unique health needs of Hawaiian communities.

  • Provides grant awards to Navajo students seeking graduate level degrees.

  • Provides academic scholarships for graduate study or research in a OAS Member State.

  • The fellowship supports new American immigrants by providing graduate scholarships.

  • The St. Andrew’s Society of Washington, D.C. grants awards from its Washington Scots Charity and Education Fund Scholarship Program to Scottish American students enrolled in U.S. or Scottish institutions.

 

Military Scholarships

These scholarships are for active duty service members, veterans, and/or their family members.


  • The Air Force Association offers scholarship opportunities to Air Force active duty, Reserves, Air National Guards and their spouses and dependents.

  • The Fellowship program supports Tillman Scholars with academic scholarships, a national network, and professional development opportunities.


  • These programs provide scholarships to children and spouses of Service members who died in the line of duty on/after September 11, 2001.

  • Provides service members and veterans with financial assistance that are needed for their educational goals at an accredited post-secondary institution.

 

State Scholarships

These scholarships are available to Maryland residents.


  • Offers scholarships and interest-free loans to aspiring professionals.

  • Students may apply for legislative scholarships.

  • Non-Maryland residents should contact the designated state agency for information on funding opportunities that may be available through their state of residency.
