David W. Nierenberg, MD

Edward Tulloh Krumm Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, Active Emeritus

Dr. Nierenberg attended Harvard Medical School and trained in Internal Medicine at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He then pursued fellowship training in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at UCSF, followed by a Chief Residency in Medicine at Stanford. Following his training, he moved to Hanover NH to establish the Section of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at Dartmouth Medical School and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. His interests in medical education ultimately led to his appointment as the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education. He is now semi-retired, but still teaches medical students and residents part time, consults part time on patients with clinical pharmacology or toxicology problems, and serves as a volunteer medical director at the local Free Clinic.

Frank Wartinger, Au.D., ABAC, F-AAA, CPS/A

Audiologist / Owner / Course Director, Earmark Hearing Conservation

Prior to obtaining his graduate degree in Audiology from Salus University, Frank studied at Purchase Conservatory of Music in the Studio Production Program and earned his Bachelor of Music degree. He is an active composer, producer, recordist, mixing engineer, and multi-instrumentalist. With over 200 records produced to date, his music has been featured on NPR's All Songs Considered and film score credits with PBS, SevenBar Foundation, Studio Rever, and the American Film Institute. Along with songwriter and producer Scott Hallam, he is co-founder of , a full service music production company. He currently co-hosts and produces the music audiology podcast .

He teaches hearing loss prevention and industrial audiology at the as well as in Detroit. Currently Dr. Wartinger serves on the representing the American Academy of Audiology (AAA). He is a certified CAOHC Course Director and Professional Supervisor of the Audiometric Monitoring Program. He is active on the executive committee of ) as an elected Member At Large (2024 - 2026), previously served as the Director of Communications (2017 - 2019), and is a member of the NHCA Music Induced Hearing Disorders Task Force. Frank is Board Certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABA). As a member of the AAA Music Audiology Task Force, he was coauthor of the first .

Dr. Frank Wartinger was a clinical specialist in audiology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from 2014 - 2022. There he coordinated the , a community service initiative focused on hearing loss and hearing conservation awareness with children and young adults in the Philadelphia area.

Drawing on his extensive experience on both sides of the glass - behind the mixing board and behind the microphones - Frank brings real-world solutions to each client's hearing and monitoring situation.

Susan Upham, MD, MPH, FACOEM

Physician / Owner, Bayside Employee Health Center

Dr. Upham received her undergraduate degree form Brandeis University and then attended the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She completed the UMMS Fitchburg Family Practice Residency in1989 and worked as a Family Practitioner for several years. She then returned to UMMS where she completed a Masters in Public Health Program and the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Fellowship. She is board certified through the ABPM (Occupational Medicine). 

She completed training in acupuncture through Harvard Medical School. She has been practicing as an occupational medicine specialist since 1993 and has special interests in onsite services, medical surveillance, toxicology, reproductive hazards, indoor air quality, cumulative trauma disorders and education. She is a certified Medical Review Officer and a certified Commercial Driver Medical Examiner. She has been elected to the New England Collage of Occupational Medicine's Board of Directors and is the editor of the NECOEM newsletter, "The Reporter". 

She has lectured on a wide variety of occupational topics for groups including employees, employers, and other professional groups. In addition to providing direct patient care for injuries, she performs independent medical evaluations, permanent impairment ratings, and second opinions.

Ryan Hines, CIH

PhD Candidate, Johns Hopkins University

Ryan Hines is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering in the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, where his research is focused on occupational exposure modeling and assessment strategies.

Ryan is a CIH, CHMM, and has 15 years of work experience as an Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) consultant, primarily focusing on the aerospace, precision optics, and metal finishing manufacturing sectors.

He is the President of the AIHA Student Chapter at the Johns Hopkins and the Secretary of the Chesapeake Local Section of AIHA. He has a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science degree in Occupational and Environment al Hygiene from the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering, along with Graduate Certificates in Environmental and Occupational Health and Risk Sciences and Public Policy from the Johns ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½.

Michael Kosnett, MD, MPH, FACMT

Dr. Kosnett is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine, at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, an Associate Adjunct Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the Colorado School of Public Health, and an Attending Physician at the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety. He is board certified in internal medicine, preventive medicine (occupational medicine) and medical toxicology.

Dr. Kosnett has longstanding clinical, academic, and research interests regarding complex health problems arising from exposure to toxic substances in occupational and environmental settings. He has served in a leadership and advisory capacity to multiple national and international organizations, including appointments as President of the American College of Medical Toxicology; member of the Committee on Toxicology of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM); and NIOSH Board of Scientific Counselors. In 2016, Dr. Kosnett was the recipient of the American College of Medical Toxicology career achievement award in recognition of “extraordinary contributions to the field of medical toxicology.â€

Manijeh Berenji, MD, MPH

Associate Clinical Professor, University of California Irvine

Dr. Berenji is a double board certified physician specializing in Occupational and Environmental Medicine as well as Preventive Medicine. She is currently Chief of Occupational Health at VA Long Beach Healthcare System. She also leads the Environmental Health Clinic at VA Long Beach Healthcare System, conducting exposure assessments for veterans (including Agent Orange, Gulf War, and Open Burn Pit registry exams). 

She is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine as well as Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the Wen School of Public Health. She is Lead of Academic and Community Partnerships with the University of California Center for Climate, Health and Equity, where she is spearheading efforts to enhance academic and industry partnerships; evaluating new methodologies to enhance emergency preparedness surrounding climate-related events; working with community leaders on identifying practical climate solutions; and developing climate curricula for medical students and residents. 

She is currently pursuing board eligibility in Clinical Informatics through the American Board of Preventive Medicine’s Practice Pathway. She is Chair of the Health Informatics as well as the Environmental Health section of ACOEM and continues to lead the ACOEM Presidential Task Force on Digital Transformation through a Planetary Health Lens. She is also a certified medico- legal evaluator and qualified medical examiner in the state of California.
