
Global Road Safety Leadership Course
Since 2016, JH-IIRU and the – with support from – have trained more than 900 passionate road safety professionals from more than 70 low- and middle-income countries (LMCIs) via the Global Road Safety Leadership Course (GRSLC).

The GRSLC suite of courses includes:

About the GRSLC
Goal
The objective of the course is to enhance effective leadership capacity to optimally address road safety in LMICs to reduce deaths and serious injuries around the world. The course builds leadership capacity to design, advocate for, and implement effective road safety programs and policies.
Curriculum
The suite of courses is delivered in-person and online; incorporating presentations and webinars from technical experts in road safety, leadership training, and workbook group activities. Each offering includes, among others, modules on:
- Road safety management
- Safer roads and mobility
- Safer vehicles
- Safer road users
- Road safety policy and advocacy
- Post-crash response
Participants
Participants are drawn from partner organizations from within the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), as well as key personnel from government agencies, civil society organizations, Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies, academia, development banks, INGO/NGOs, and enforcement agencies, who are actively engaged in road safety activities globally.

Alumni Fellowship Program
The GRSLC Alumni Fellowship is a year-long initiative designed to deepen the leadership journey of distinguished graduates from the GRSLC. The program empowers selected alumni to elevate their impact in the field of road safety through targeted development and high-level engagement.
Core elements of the fellowship include:
- Leadership advancement: Enhanced training in leadership, strategic communication, and collaborative practice.
- Personalized mentorship: One-on-one guidance from seasoned road safety experts.
- Project design and implementation: Fellows conceptualize and carry out a road safety initiative under expert supervision.
- Course facilitation: Opportunities to contribute to the GRSLC by supporting its delivery.
- Capacity building: Participation in advanced training opportunities, including enrolment in the Johns ÎÚŃ»´«Ă˝â€™s Summer Institute.
A highlight of the fellowship is the Project Showcase and Engagement Workshop, held in New York City, USA. This high-profile event features:
- Leadership development sessions with global experts
- Presentation of fellows’ completed projects to Bloomberg Philanthropies
GRSLC 2025
The 2025 offering—the seventh held in Baltimore and 19th offering overall—brought together 61 participants from a wide range of countries and professional backgrounds in road safety.
