The David and Elinor Bodian Scholarship Fund

The David and Elinor Bodian Foundation established this award to honor the late Dr. David Bodian, who served on the School’s faculty from 1942 to 1947, and his wife Elinor. Dr. Bodian’s seminal research on the behavior of the poliovirus contributed to the development of the polio vaccine and to worldwide progress in combating this crippling disease. Elinor Bodian graduated from the Art as Applied to Medicine Program at the School of Medicine. The fund provides annual tuition/stipend support to a doctoral student in any department at the School whose dissertation research is at a critical juncture.

Eligibility
Students in the doctoral program in any department at the school who have completed their departmental comprehensive exams and have submitted a research proposal. Scholarship awards will be made based on demonstrated ability and future potential.

Student submits application materials to Jennifer Moessbauer at jmoessbauer@jhu.edu: 1.) CV 2.) 2 letters of recommendations (1 may be adviser) 3.) JHSPH transcript 4.) Essay answering specifically: Student submits personal statement describing future goals, a summary of their research project and career goals.

The essay (2 pages, double spaced) about the research should address the:
1. research hypothesis or goal with objectives and design
2. Innovation or novelty
3. public health relevance
