Showcasing New Work from Research Networks
The Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network recently held its 12th annual Research Findings Dissemination Conference in Dhaka.
IGTC-supported research networks in Bangladesh and Indonesia each held a dissemination conference recently, providing tobacco control researchers the opportunity to share new and locally-relevant work.
In February, the Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network (BTCRN) held its 12th annual event, where eight BTCRN grantees reached more than 200 participants with research presentations on critical issues like smoke-free policies, health warning labels, and plain and standardized packaging. IGTC was represented by country lead Sejal Saraf.
Since its inception, BTCRN has helped build capacity by awarding 131 tobacco control policy research grants—including to early career and student researchers.
In March, the Indonesia Tobacco Control Research Network (ITCRN) dissemination event featured approximately 200 tobacco control advocates, academicians, students, and government officials.
The program included ten presentations held across three sessions focused on health warning labels/smoke-free policies, tobacco taxation, and TAPS bans. Previous ITCRN grantees have published 29 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to highlighting new research, these annual events also provide a networking opportunity for key stakeholders in tobacco control, civil society, and academia as well as federal and local government.
