Overview
Responsible for maintaining the Micronutrient Research Laboratory at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, which largely supports research on effects of nutrition interventions within randomized trials at population sites such as JiVitA (Bangladesh) and NNIPS (Nepal) through the assessment of biological specimens for nutritional and health status biomarkers. Provides expertise in nutritional assessment techniques and interpretation of biomarkers. Research interests include interpreting micronutrient status biomarkers, determining effects of interventions on micronutrient status, and understanding consequences of deficiencies in women through pregnancy and lactation, infants, children, and adolescents in underserved settings. Also uses other nutritional assessment techniques, including anthropometric measures and field-appropriate methods for body composition assessment, to more broadly characterize nutritional risk in both field and clinical studies.
