Lauren Zalla is a social epidemiologist who works to improve health and reduce health inequities among people with HIV in the United States. Her research describes the social and structural determinants of health among people with HIV, and examines the causal effects of clinic-, state-, and national-level interventions to reduce health disparities related to HIV. In particular, she focuses on the place-based determinants of racial health disparities (e.g., racial residential segregation), and on place-based policy initiatives (e.g., state AIDS Drug Assistance Programs and the federal Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative).

Dr. Zalla also works to develop and disseminate epidemiologic methods that improve our ability to answer policy-relevant research questions. She has written about methods for measuring and monitoring health disparities, for estimating the effects of interventions to reduce disparities, and for improving the accuracy and precision of estimates for population sub-groups.
