AI tools are rapidly evolving, and our public health world is adapting in response, with the mental health sector as a forerunner. Presented by PHAISE and the Department of Mental Health, Dr. Mark Dredze, professor, Whiting School of Engineering, will explore current uses of AI tools, such as Natural Language Processing, to answer pressing mental health questions in both clinical and population health studies in this hybrid seminar. PHAISE and Dr. Dredze will discuss resources and opportunities for audiences of all backgrounds to learn more and design their own AI studies in mental health.
Mark Dredze is the John C Malone Professor of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University, the (Interim) Deputy Director for the JHU Data Science and AI Institute, and the Associate Head of Research and Strategic Initiatives for the Department of Computer Science. He develops Artificial Intelligence Systems based on natural language processing and explores applications to public health and medicine.
Prof. Dredze is affiliated with the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare, and the Center for Language and Speech Processing, among others. He holds a joint appointment in the Biomedical Informatics & Data Science Section (BIDS), under the Department of Medicine (DOM), Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) in the School of Medicine. He obtained his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009.
