Education Happenings: Summer Institute June 7-18, 2021
We are excited to launch the Summer Institute in Data to Policy in Population, Family and Reproductive Health.
The Institute is designed to equip students with skills needed to understand population-based data and shape policies related to families, reproductive health, and the health of populations.
Over 80 people have enrolled so far, but there is still time to ! The Institute will hold classes June 7 鈥 18, 2021. All courses are 100% online.

MCH Center Of Excellence In Maternal and Child Health
The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Center of Excellence hosted this year鈥檚 virtual annual grantee meeting of 22 HRSA funded MCH training programs. We were delighted to welcome Dr. Harolyn Belcher, Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at Kennedy Krieger Institute as this year鈥檚 keynote speaker. Her remarks, 鈥淪upporting an Anti-Racist System of Care to Ensure Child, Youth, and Family Health,鈥 set the stage for conversations that followed including a focus on strategies for addressing racism within our training programs. A special thanks to Dr. Donna Strobino for serving on the planning committee, Drs. Blair Berger and Noelene Jeffers for serving as breakout group facilitators, and Deenah Darom and Kristen McCormick for program assistance.
Our MCH Postdoctoral Fellows continue to rock! Dr. Noelene Jeffers presented at the Black Maternal Health Conference on 鈥淭he Black Birthing Bill of Rights: Communicating a human-rights based approach to Black maternal health care through art and social media.鈥 Also, stay tuned for Dr. Blair Berger鈥檚 forthcoming manuscript, 鈥淭he development of measures to assess mistreatment of women during childbirth based on labor observations鈥 soon to be published in BMJ Global Health. And congratulations to former MCH Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Karen Grace, who will be joining the faculty at George Mason's School of Nursing in Fall, 2021 !
