ANNOUNCING A NEW E-BOOK FROM THE DEPARTMENT, PENNED BY CIPRIAN CRAINICEANU, BRIAN CAFFO AND JOHN MUSCHELLI.

We are pleased to announce a new e-book from the department: Ciprian Crainiceanu, Brian Caffo and John Muschelli have collaborated to produce Methods in Biostatistics with R! This endeavor was created by way of Leanpub – a new publishing model which makes it possible for readers to acquire free and low-cost books of variable pricing; readers also receive all updated versions of books purchased through the site. JHU Biostatistics now has many titles on Leanpub, and even some best sellers!

Methods in Biostatistics with R is based on the Biostat 651 and 652 course series that Brian – and now Ciprian – have taught over the past decade. They joined with John – our resident R guru – to create a highly ambitious book on Biostatistics. This book is a unique blend of theory, methods, application and coding – an intersection where the SMART working group likes to operate. 

The book covers basic mathematical biostatistics, R, exploratory data analysis and biostatistical inference in a unified approach. Students interested in reading the manuscript should have the same basic requirements as the 650 series, some basic calculus, programming skills and a willingness to learn.
