IH PhD Students
Description
Creates a focused, small group environment for the entering IH PhD students and actively engages in relevant content necessary for success in the PhD program. Supports and extends beyond those topics taught in the classroom setting. Provides an opportunity to engage with peers and faculty in the development of research ideas, components of a solid research proposal, writing for different audiences, and the development of skills in presenting research ideas to technical audiences. Engages students in exploring and understanding the literature in their area of interest, creating an annotated literature review, sharing what they learn through a brief presentation, including gaps in the literature and potential areas to pursue through research.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Evaluate and critique the relevant literature on a topic and identify gaps and new research questions.
  2. Identify a research question, conduct a literature search and consolidate findings through an annotated literature review.
  3. Present findings from a literature search to answer one or more research questions to different technical audiences.
