ScM or PhD students in Cardiovascular and Clinical Epidemiology only.
Presents contemporary clinical and cardiovascular epidemiology research articles and in-progress research. Emphasizes presentation skills, giving and receiving of feedback, and critical evaluation of scientific literature. Uses combined research-in-progress and journal club formats; students present their ongoing research, and papers from the published literature are distributed in advance and discussed. Expects students to present at least one journal article and present their own research at least once during their program. Practices the providing and receiving of feedback from their peers and other members of the Welch Center.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Read and critically evaluate scientific papers
- Lead a discussion on a research article
- Critique analytic methods in the published literature
- Give an effective presentation on student's own current research project
- Ask relevant questions during scientific presentations

- 25% Discussion Board
Students must take this course at least twice during their programs. Meets every Monday during the term. Seminars begin promptly at 12:00. Students must engage at least 6 sessions per term to pass the course. Additional seminars outside of the regularly scheduled course time can also count towards attendance – applicable sessions will be listed on CoursePlus.
