This course will serve as a starting point for Health Security students to gain ideas about quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches to health security-related research that may aid them in their development of thesis research.
Reviews different methodological approaches commonly used in Health Security research, beginning with foundational research components, moving on to qualitative and quantitative approaches, and ending with perspectives on translating research to policy and practice. Provides approximately 20-30 minute recorded lectures reviewing approaches to research faculty members from the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and others led (students will read a published paper or report related to this research in preparation for each lecture).

- Describe common qualitative research methods used in the health security research space.
- Describe common quantitative research methods used in the health security research space.
- Identify common pitfalls in qualitative and quantitative research methods in health security.
