Description
Covers all scientific portions of a typical NIH grant; both K and R-type grants [Specific Aims, Significance & Innovation, and Approach (Preliminary Data and Research Design and Methods)] and important non-scientific sections (e.g., biosketches, budgets, etc.). Covers the process of grant reviews. Writes a scientifically compelling Specific Aims page using the standard NIH format and will be able to formulate the other scientific and non-scientific portions of the grant.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Propose a set of inter-related research questions that would translate into a scientifically rigorous grant application
  2. Write a scientifically compelling Specific Aims page in the NIH format
  3. Formulate an approach to completing all scientific and non-scientific portions of a grant
  4. Review colleagues’ grant ideas in a constructive manner
