PhD students in Epidemiology
Introduces epidemiologic methods to doctoral students in the department of epidemiology (first in a four-term sequence). Delves into the role of epidemiology in public health, clinical and population health research, epidemiologic study designs, and measurement of exposures and health outcomes (validity, reliability, information bias).
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the role of epidemiology for public health, clinical and population health research
- Discuss the main characteristics of different epidemiologic study designs, their advantages, and their limitations
- Calculate and interpret measures of validity (sensitivity, specificity) and reliability (percent agreement, kappa, correlation-coefficient)
