Only for MSPH Health Systems students in their 2nd year
Offers students an opportunity to integrate and apply program skills and competencies to a public health problem in a format that approximates a professional practice experience. Fosters students’ ability to produce scholarly papers that provide a meaningful contribution to knowledge of the health of underserved populations. Guides students’ development of tangible evidence of expertise that addresses specific applied topics relevant to international health.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Develop a concise and cohesive written document that defines a public health problem, a population of interest, and have a defined geographic scope
- Conduct a comprehensive literature review
- Synthesize relevant literature in a specific public health topic
- Analyze and present public health data in a scholarly paper

This course is evaluated as follows:
- 70% Final Paper
- 30% Final Presentation
MSPH Health Systems students must take this course for Letter Grade only in the term they are completing all degree requirements.
