Bloomberg School
Alumni from as far back as the Class of 鈥52 and far away as Japan will gather Friday, Sept. 19, to celebrate the School鈥檚 2nd annual Alumni Day. Faculty, staff and current students are invited to share in the fun and benefit from the Networking Reception.
鈥淎lumni Day is the closest event we have to a reunion,鈥 says Morgan Martin, associate director of Alumni Relations. 鈥淚t brings together people from all over the world to network and learn from their fellow graduates.鈥
The Alumni Association will honor the accomplishments of 13 Bloomberg School graduates with presentations of the Heritage, Distinguished Alumnus, Global Achievement and Outstanding Recent Graduate awards. Dean Michael J. Klag鈥攚ho earned an MPH here in 1987鈥攚ill speak on the 鈥淪tate of the School.鈥
During the coffee break, attendees can snap selfies in front of a backdrop of the School on the Wall of Wonder and share the photographs on social media with #publichealthselfie.
A highlight of the day鈥檚 events: Joshua Sharfstein, MD, Maryland鈥檚 Secretary of Health & Mental Hygiene will moderate a keynote discussion featuring Bloomberg Distinguished Professor Kathryn Edin, PhD, a leading poverty researcher; and Rebecca Onie, JD, a MacArthur Fellow and World Economic Forum Young Global Leader who cofounded Health Leads, a nonprofit that enables physicians to prescribe basic resources for health, such as food and exercise programs.
鈥淕raduates from the No. 1 School of Public Health deserve the best alumni engagement opportunities,鈥 says Jimmie Lou DeBakey, director of Constituent Relations. 鈥淚 want alumni to walk away from our provocative programs thinking, I can鈥檛 wait to come back for more.鈥
